Arizona, UCLA Lead Pac-12 Recruiting Resurgence

Sep 30, 2011 12:32 PM

Arizona and UCLA have combined to secure commitments from six of the top-100 recruits in the class of 2012.

"The Pac-12 has been down for a couple of years, but the classes that UCLA and Arizona are bringing in provide an immediate talent boost to the conference," CBSSports.com college basketball writer and recruiting analyst Jeff Borzello said. "There was a lack of bonafide five-star prospects within the league, but Arizona is bringing in at least two, with Kaleb Tarczewski still considering the Wildcats. (No. 1 overall prospect) Shabazz Muhammad is still in play for the Bruins.

"The talent influx in Westwood and Tucson mean those two could fight for Final Four berths again within two years."

No. 5 Overall Prospect Kyle Anderson Commits To UCLA

Sep 20, 2011 10:48 AM

Kyle Anderson, the No. 5 overall prospect in the class of 2012, committed to UCLA on Monday.

Anderson chose UCLA over Seton Hall, Georgetown, Florida and St. John's.

Anderson is a 6-foot-7 small forward who is largely known for his passing ability.

Anderson is thought to be close to Shabazz Muhammad, the nation's top prospect. "Bazz has to make his own decision based on what's best for him," Anderson said. "I do hope he comes, though."

Duke, Ohio State, UCLA Make Top-3 For Class Of 2012's Tony Parker

Sep 14, 2011 10:55 AM

Duke, Ohio State and UCLA appear to comprise the final three college choices for big man Tony Parker out of Georgia.

Memphis and Georgetown apparently have been eliminated.

Parker is a 6-foot-9, 270-pound power forward ranked in the top-25 from the class of 2012. Parker had an outstanding Nike Global Challenge tournament in August.

“I think it’s smart that Georgia Tech and Georgia are still recruiting Tony,” Miller Grove basketball coach Sharman White told the AJC. “I wouldn’t give up. He’s a hometown guy. When you look at it, Georgia Tech and Georgia aren’t losing that much in time or money by checking on Tony. It’s not like they have to fly out to California to see him. He’s in their backyard. I think it’s smart for them to keep recruiting Tony because you never know how things turn out.”

Howland Might Play One Of Wear Twins At Small Forward

Sep 6, 2011 5:51 PM

Ben Howland said he might play one of the Wear twins at the small forward position for to have a taller and even more frontcourt-oriented starting lineup. David and Travis Wear transfered to UCLA from North Carolina.

"We will put the best five players on the floor and four of the best players [may be forwards]," Howland said. "[The Wears] are really good passers, good shooters, and Josh can really manage a lot of the attention and open up a lot of opportunities for the other players. The Wears are really improved, physically and athletically. They're going to be really good."
